Free Workshops are Available to the Community
MapsOnline workshops are offered free of charge. Individuals can sign up to attend a regularly scheduled workshop, or a group of up to twenty individuals can request a group training.
MapsOnline workshop participants come from every sector of the community. According to surveys administered to past workshop participants, most feel the workshop helped them better to understand MapsOnline, as well as general mapping principals. Attendees leave the workshop prepared to make their own customized maps, and are better informed about web-based sources of data and statistics that are useful to their work.
Group workshops have been conducted among Syracuse City School District School Psychologists and Social Workers (October 2008); members of the Journey to Jobs Coalition (January 2009); Onondaga County Public Librarians (March 2009); and staff at the Syracuse Educational Opportunity Center (June 2009).

MapsOnline Workshop Reviews

“I am a program and grant writing consultant, and also volunteer for a number of non-profits as a board member and grant writer. I have already begun using data and maps generated by MapsOnline to develop a base of information for three of the organizations I am working with. One of my objectives is to work with MapsOnline staff to develop a map for a non-profit — that reflects our service area, and layer that with various other MapsOnline maps to inform our board of directors and for grant/fundraising purposes. Finally — as I really am in a “state” of semi-retirement — I will be utilizing the site for information on a number of papers/articles I am drafting. I am a geographer by degree and at heart. I will definitely call on your staff if I need extra assistance.”
“As the new pastor of a city church, a quick/easy way of getting bird's eye info about the church's neighborhood.” — Clergy
“This was great! Much easier than jumping in and attempting it myself, getting frustrated & quitting. I learned a lot & the materials will be great to have for reference. Thanks.” — Human services nonprofit worker
